I have recently joined a group who are sending post cards to one another -BY SNAIL MAIL!!!! I thought this might be a bit of fun - playing with small images and doing a bit of cutting and pasting. I have heaps of half started experimental bits of paper lying around and I like the fact that they will 'go to a good cause'.
Here are some of my experiments of the past week or so - using ink, water colour, gouache, teabags, joss paper, and the shiny bits are nail polish. They are all twice post card size - I will fold them in half and sew the edges together, maybe enclosing a little 'surprise' inside.

I will write a few words on the insides.
I really like the idea of the PO staff smiling when they handle the cards. Let's hope some of the processes are still done by hand and not all fully automated. Maybe that's a good reason for me to put addresses, stamps etc in unconventional places - confuse the robots!!
I truly treasure the post card and the special insert I received, it sits on a special shelf and is admired often!
ReplyDeleteI am also part of this group but I haven't made any of my post cards yet-- boo hoo! but yours are wonderful-- I better get on the ball as I see what I am missing out on...
ReplyDeleteHi Noela....
ReplyDeletewhat treats you have prepared for us...this is rather like Christmas....
Your cards are beautiful Noela.
Oh and also you don't need to be restricted to postcard formats...anything goes...I have used old recycled flyers, brochures, airline tickets, cereal boxes, in fact any base that your creativity and imagination lead you to.
happy mailing
Noela, these are wonderful. Nail polish? Now that is experimenting and improvising. There is something special about receiving post via snail mail.
ReplyDeleteHi Noela
ReplyDeleteI came back for another look at your special creations. I will be interested to see how you go with stamp positioning. I have been tempted to place the stamp in places other than the conventional corner but thought the machines might reject the mail...If I have a number of stamps I do get more imaginative....
Another thing I noticed is the gum leaf...if it is a real one it may pose a problem. Early on in one of my posts I mentioned that mail coming from my sister in Israel has been impounded a number of times because of plant matter, but Au has strict quarantine laws...I don't know about the US regulations. Anything is worth a try though.
Happy days
WOW! Noela these look fantastic, what fun this project is.... Kim xox

ReplyDeletemmm, I want one of these! They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGosh, these are all such beautiful cards - what a wonderful thing to be traveling through the mail systems of the world!! Perhaps they will give the mail carriers a smile as they deliver them.
ReplyDeleteYour postcards are beautiful Noela! I took part in a postcard collaboration with a number of artists last year...the artists were from Melbourne, Brisbane, Central Queensland and the UK. I used to take the postcards to the same post office, the postal workers were at first curious then as time they looked forward to seeing what I had done...they were very patient while I chose stamps for each of them, they were also very happy to hand cancel the stamps. You can view some of the cards at http://thepostcardcollaboration.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI like these very much... I think 3 and 4 are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI recognize #4! I was the lucky recipient of it. Thanks Noela.
