Back into the Blogging World

Hi to all of my loyal followers.

It's a struggle staying up to date with all the different social media promotional platforms, but it's high time I updated my blog. I have been posting on facebook as 'Noela Mills Artist' for the past couple of years, so hopefully many of you are still following me.

Here's a quick low down on what I've been up to:
Early 2016 - I entered every high profile painting competition in the country [well, not the BIG ones, just the attainable ones - hahah] with limited success but I now have a large body of 'new' paintings for sale. [Pics on a later blog]
Later 2016-  I made a large body of jewellery for an exhibition in Japan. The title was 'Australia by Nature' and my focus was scribbly gum marks and designs. I had a lovely trip to Japan again for this and other projects in October.
early 2017 - I have just finished a new body of 'wabi sabi' jewellery which I hope to exhibit later this year - watch this space!
I am using recycled EPNS metals, much of which has been donated to me from my friend Barry Smith.
I'm combining the metals with aluminium, found objects and recycled bits and pieces - lots of fun and it keeps my brain challenged finding solutions to technical problems.

Here is a selection of my favourite recent jewellery creations.
Heat treated EPNS, sterling silver, copper rivets, recycled chain, 9ct gold detail, Perspex backing.

For Catherine... recycled stainless steel deck wire, steel beads.

Heat treated EPNS, steel, copper, silver plated wires, glass beads, fishing rod piece.

Heat treated EPNS, aluminium, steel wire, glass beads.

Heat treated EPNS metals, folded copper, pearls, glass beads, silver chain, Perspex backing.

Now that I remember how to post again, I'll try to keep up the momentum!
New earrings next week.
Happy 2017 everyone!

    1. Thanks so much, I too like a bit of subtlety - the world is crazy full of colour, we need a rest from it at times.

    1. Thanks Debbie, EPNS is 'Electro Plated Nickel Silver' , the old silver plated cake stands, trays, teapots etc are EPNS, usually copper , brass or steel base with silver plating. It's a great way to recycle and I have been melting the silver plating to get these great textures and colours.

  4. N - such creative variety. Lots of metal available as I have been doing a lot of cutting of metal recently for various bits of work. Go well. B

    1. Thanks B, I would love to get back into the jewellery immediately, but I have a few paintings to do for commissions, exhibitions, etc. I'll be there with bells on ASAP.
